During the 2023 AIG Women’s Open, English golfer Charley Hull expressed her frustration with protesters from the Oil Money Rebellion group, who disrupted the event with smoke flares at the 17th hole. The protest was intended to raise awareness about oil dependency, but Hull, who has asthma, was unimpressed by their actions, calling the demonstrators “idiots.”

The smoke from the flares exacerbated her condition, and she criticized the protesters for likely using the very oil products they were opposing, remarking, “How did they get here today? Drove probably.”

Hull’s caddie, Adam Woodward, also noted that the police quickly removed the protesters, and fortunately, their actions did not affect the tournament results.

Despite the interruption, Hull’s performance remained a key highlight of the event, though she expressed disappointment with her overall results. After finishing the fourth round, she shared that she felt things were not going her way on the course, especially during crucial moments.

Although she fell short of victory, Hull praised the eventual champion, Lilia Vu, and thanked her fans for their continued support, promising to come back stronger in the next season.
