Holger Rune’s mother, Aneke, recently took to social media to highlight her son’s remarkable performance during the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters. In a grueling series of matches, Rune played eight sets within nearly 24 hours.

On April 11, Rune triumphed over Sumit Nagal with scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the second round, followed by a hard-fought victory against World No. 9 Grigor Dimitrov, winning 7-6(9), 3-6, 7-6(2) in three hours. The next day, Rune faced World No. 2 Jannik Sinner in another intense three-set match, ultimately falling 4-6, 7-6(6), 3-6.

Aneke’s Instagram post celebrated her son’s impressive efforts under difficult conditions. Her caption, “Not easy conditions. Bravo Holger,” acknowledged the physical and mental endurance required for such a marathon of matches. Despite the tough losses, Rune’s resilience and performance were a testament to his dedication to the sport.

In doubles, Rune, paired with Taylor Fritz, advanced to the quarterfinals but lost 2-6, 6-7(4) to Brazil’s Marcelo Melo and singles World No. 5 Alexander Zverev. They had previously defeated Lloyd Glasspool/Jean-Julien Rojer and Nikola Mektic/Wesley Koolhof to reach the last eight.

Aneke has discussed Holger’s aspirations and the journey towards achieving them. Reflecting on his progression, she emphasized that Rune’s ultimate goal is to win a Grand Slam. She noted the significant effort required to excel in such a demanding format, highlighting Rune’s commitment to improving his game and physical conditioning. According to Aneke, it is only a matter of time before Rune clinches his first Grand Slam title.
