PGA Tour told to bring back LIV Golf stars as £766 million merger talks intensify

As discussions between the PGA Tour and the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) gain momentum, many in the golf world are calling for a reunion of PGA Tour players and LIV Golf stars. Former Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington has proposed a solution to foster collaboration between the two circuits: allowing crossover invitations for players from both leagues.

Harrington’s suggestion, shared at the Irish Open, would see each PGA Tour and European Tour event extend invitations to four LIV players, while LIV events would host four international players. This idea, he believes, would create buzz and excitement in both competitions while maintaining the competitive edge.

The potential merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, funded by PIF’s significant £766 million investment, could reshape professional golf. However, the road to a complete agreement remains uncertain. Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour Commissioner, has expressed optimism about the talks but acknowledged the complexity of the ongoing negotiations.
