Chelsea Women’s manager, Sonia Bompastor, has addressed Australia’s request for Sam Kerr to join the national team camp in October, despite Kerr still recovering from an ACL injury.
While Australian interim coach Tom Sermanni expressed interest in Kerr being present for their European fixtures against Germany and Switzerland, Bompastor emphasized that Chelsea is prioritizing Kerr’s recovery.
She highlighted the importance of communication between club and national teams, stating that while they are open to discussions, it is not currently in Kerr’s best interest to attend the camp.
Bompastor added that Kerr’s rehabilitation is progressing well, and a plan is in place for her next steps, including potential individual training. However, she reiterated that allowing Kerr to participate in the upcoming camp is not a decision Chelsea is likely to make at this time.
