After Bryson DeChambeau drops out, no LIV Golf professional remains in top 10; Sergio Garcia calls OWGR “no longer worth it”

As of October 2024, no LIV Golf professional is ranked in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), following Bryson DeChambeau’s drop to 11th place. This marks the first time since 2020 that Tommy Fleetwood, an English golfer, has made it into the top 10.

In response to these developments, LIV Golf player Sergio Garcia expressed his frustration, declaring that the OWGR has “lost its worth” for players on the Saudi-backed tour. Garcia, currently ranked 390th, explained that even with ranking points, it would be nearly impossible for LIV golfers to break into the top 50 without dominating the majority of their tour events.

Garcia’s frustrations highlight the challenges LIV Golf players face without access to OWGR points, which can only be earned through majors or events like the DP World Tour. Despite his impressive performance in 2024, including a victory in Andalucia and several top-five finishes, Garcia remains uncertain about future major invitations.

In a recent interview, he expressed hope that the major organizers will recognize his achievements and extend him the opportunity to compete. However, Garcia acknowledged that he may need to rely on qualifiers for events outside of The Masters, where he has a standing invitation.
