Ex-LIV Golf star’s chances of winning PGA Tour card suffer blow – but for a very good reason

Laurie Canter’s pursuit of a PGA Tour card has been temporarily put on hold as he withdrew from the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth this week. The former LIV Golf star, who is currently ranked 16th in the Race to Dubai standings, stepped aside for a very personal reason—he is on standby for the birth of his second child.

Canter had participated in the practice rounds earlier in the week but made the decision to prioritize his family over his golf commitments, leaving Andrew Johnston and Justin Harding to replace him in the field.

Despite this setback, Canter remains focused on his goal of securing one of the 10 coveted PGA Tour cards available at the end of the DP World Tour season. Should he succeed, he would become the first former LIV Golf player to make the leap to the PGA Tour.

While acknowledging the challenging timing, Canter emphasized that family comes first and that he will return to competition later in the season. With just a few events remaining, his strong performance in the final stages will be critical to his chances of earning a career-changing PGA Tour membership.
