Justin Rose makes feelings clear on Ian Poulter being Europe’s next Ryder Cup captain

Justin Rose has shared his thoughts on Ian Poulter potentially returning to captain Team Europe at a future Ryder Cup, despite Poulter’s departure from the DP World Tour. Poulter, a Ryder Cup icon, expressed his desire to captain the European team, but his move to LIV Golf and subsequent resignation from the DP World Tour complicated his eligibility.

While Poulter’s decision did not outright disqualify him, his break from the Tour has led to his exclusion from European golf’s top events, including last year’s Ryder Cup.

Rose, speaking ahead of the BMW PGA Championship, acknowledged the ongoing tensions between the traditional golf tours and LIV Golf but expressed optimism for a resolution. He believes that, should the fractured golf landscape heal, Poulter could once again be part of the European team as captain.

“I can definitely see that pathway,” Rose said, though he emphasized the importance of swift reconciliation within the sport. Poulter himself remains hopeful that he will one day get the chance to lead the European side, provided that a compromise is reached between the tours.
