Latin Women In Sports: Gabriela Sabatini is Latin America’s Best Tennis Player Ever

Gabriela Sabatini is widely regarded as Latin America’s greatest tennis player. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she made her debut on the WTA tour at just 15 and quickly rose to prominence.

Throughout her remarkable career, Sabatini reached at least one Grand Slam semifinal every year between 1985 and 1996. Her crowning achievement came at the 1990 US Open, where she defeated her longtime rival, Steffi Graf, to claim her first and only Grand Slam singles title.

In addition to her Grand Slam victory, she won a silver medal at the 1988 Olympics and a Wimbledon doubles title that same year. Sabatini retired at the young age of 26 after 12 seasons, having won 27 singles titles and reached a career-high ranking of No. 3.
