LIV Golf star who wanted to ‘quit’ breaks silence on future after PGA Tour claims

Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra, a rising star in the world of professional golf, has dismissed rumors of his departure from the LIV Golf league. Lopez-Chacarra, who turned professional in 2022 to join the Saudi-funded circuit, has become a notable figure on the tour, securing his first win at LIV Bangkok that same year and earning £3.1 million.

Since then, the 24-year-old has played a key role in Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs team, helping them secure a team title at LIV Andalucia earlier this year. Despite rumors suggesting that he was ready to leave the league, Lopez-Chacarra made it clear that he has no plans to move on, stating that the claims were “not true at all.”

While Lopez-Chacarra’s future with the Fireballs remains uncertain, as he ended the 2024 season in free agency, the golfer expressed a strong desire to stay with the team. He acknowledged that his place for 2025 is still in question, depending on whether Garcia re-signs him. However, Lopez-Chacarra remains optimistic, noting that even if he isn’t selected, he can still participate in LIV Promotions to secure his place.

Currently competing in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on the DP World Tour, the young Spaniard is focused on his performance while awaiting final decisions on his future within the LIV Golf league.
