During the 2024 Presidents Cup, an altercation unfolded involving Scottie Scheffler’s father, Scott, and his caddie, Ted Scott, after a fan reportedly made derogatory comments about Scheffler’s wife, Meredith.
The incident took place during the Saturday foursome match on the par-4 16th hole of the Royal Montreal Golf Course, where Scheffler was playing alongside Russell Henley against Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im. According to reports from sports journalist Gabby Herzig, both Scottie’s father and Ted Scott confronted the fan after hearing the offensive remarks. Security swiftly removed the individual from the course following the confrontation.
Despite the disruption, both Scheffler and Henley remained composed and secured a decisive victory, winning the match 3&2. Russell Henley, speaking at a press conference afterward, downplayed the impact of the incident, stating that they quickly refocused and continued the game. Scheffler’s parents declined to comment further on the matter, and Scottie was absent from the press conference. Nonetheless, the incident did not overshadow Team USA’s strong performance, which saw them rally from an early deficit to take control of the match and ultimately win on the 16th hole.
